Detrash Portland’s work is entirely made possible by civic minded volunteers who strive to make positive impacts within their community. The group was spear-headed by Peter Brewer, who was inspired by the #trashtag and #trashtagchallenge hashtags. Detrash Portland took its root on MeetUp and Instagram, harnessing the power of social media to connect community members to make an even bigger impact.

The group merged with SOLVE in 2021, combining resources and platforms to create an even larger reach to volunteers who want to step up and make a difference. Volunteers are welcome to come to an upcoming Detrash Portland event, or they can create their own, at a time and date of their choosing. We’ll provide cleanup supplies, planning assistance, and a platform for volunteers to register on. Together, we can make the city we know and love a safer, cleaner, and healthier place. Detrash Portland organizes and hosts weekly events where volunteers can join us in picking up trash from Portland’s sidewalks, parks, and neighborhoods.

Simply put, we are a group of people who want to help keep Portland beautiful by thinking globally and acting locally. We provide everything you need to pick up litter safely, now we just need volunteers to help get the work done.  This is a group for anyone who is interested in making a quick and visible difference. Picking up trash is easy and we are here to show that it also can be fun.

In 2021, Detrash Portland merged with SOLVE, combining resources and expanding the reach of our cleanup mission. Now, not only do we continue to host weekly events, but we can support Portlanders who would like to host their own Detrash Portland cleanups at a time, date, and place of their choosing.
